Uzodinma Iweala

Uzodinma Iweala is a distinguished leader, writer, and creative visionary with a diverse background spanning cultural institutions, media, and academia. Since January 2018, he has served as the Chief Executive Officer of The Africa Center in New York, transforming the organization into a dynamic multidisciplinary institution. Under his leadership, the Center eliminated $20 million in debt, raised over $30 million, and oversaw the development of 75,000 square feet of prime cultural space.

In the media sector, Iweala co-founded Ventures Africa, a prominent pan-African media platform, where he served as CEO and Editor-in-Chief until 2018. His work there earned multiple awards for its innovative journalism and expanded the platform’s audience to over 1 million active followers.

Since 2020, Iweala has been a Writer in Residence and faculty member at New York University’s Creative Writing MFA program, where he mentors emerging literary talents. He is also an accomplished filmmaker and producer, with notable works including the documentary series Kicking and Streaming.

Iweala holds an M.D. from Columbia University and an A.B. magna cum laude in English and American Literature from Harvard University. His extensive board service includes roles with prestigious organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund and the International Rescue Committee. Through his varied endeavors, Iweala continues to influence global cultural, policy, and creative landscapes.
